My jewelry believes in Science!

For the last few weeks, i've been TOTALLY into drawing science related doodles. Last week my friend Tiffany came over, and we made shrink plastic jewelry, and i finally got to make wearable science art!
i LOVE how they came out, and am starting to list them on my websites. This is the first piece i listed. It's called "Binary Love".  I'm so proud of the collection!

Not Your Teachers Chalk Board

Oh my! How cute!! I stumbled upon this lovely on the Etsy front page this fine morning/evening. Isn't her work clever? Evrydiki has quite a few little chalk board goodies and some other pretty hand made metal pieces as well. Go check out her shop!

So head over to Evrydiki and look at her pretty jewels. :D

Smiles and Blessings friends,

These are a few of my favorite things...

A few of my favorite things...

a) Saving lives during the day, and creating during the evenings, EMT Sweeetie makes intricate, yet delicate greeting cards.

b)Sadly, there aren't many items on the "Lucky Little Dot" page. But what does have are really cute. I can't wait to see the rest of her collection!

c) I can't say much about the amazing work of Sarah Jane that most of you wouldn't already know. Just when you think she's make the sweetest little print you've ever scene, a few days later, there's another on her site that takes your breath away.

d) Lindsay from "dot dot dot"makes really cute cards, wall hangings and wreaths. I was captivated by her sweet style last year, and have been intrigued since.

e) Holly from "Gollybard" makes really unique prints. Make sure to also check out her other shop too called "The Beehive Press".

f) I am a sucker for color. And these awesomely colorful bags and wallets from Lusitania were lovely for the eyes.

These are a few of my favorite things....

I've always taken a liking to that song, so alas, i might as well take a liking to sharing some pretties i have found!!

1. I've been making beads for several years. I don't know exactly how long since I don't track time well! I'd guess about 8-10 years.

2. I did not always make beads but looking back on my life, beads have always been with me. In High School I made a pair of (heavily) beaded jeans & they were part of a school art show...I wore them for a long time but sadly they are gone somewhere! Before my current bead career I did ceramics & pastels... actually I was an art gypsy. I was a jack of many artistic things. For awhile I did stained glass too.

3. I love color. But so many people can say that. I guess if I dig deeper about myself & color I would say that color is energy and I am typically an energetic person. So color says volumes about my personality. Of course, may other things are inspiring too. Nature, different cultures, music...anything that is emotive or symbolic I find intreging. Lastly but probably most importantly....the children I work with each day inspire me. Watching them joyfully create & loving what they produce inspires me to feel the same about what I make...be it "good" or "bad". Its the process of creating.

4. Challenges....hmmmmm.
Well, here it is....the biggest challenge was to learn to disregard "mean, negative" people. They're out there. Don't get rattled by rejection and as far as "copy cats"....let them. My mother always told me that there is nothing new under the sun (Barnimam Baily quote) and that is soooo true. Its how you put it together that is the original thing & people will have a tough time capturing your spirit. In addition, I would say pricing. Pricing is difficult. There are many ideas on pricing but when I started out I first checked to see what others were getting and then I took into consideration that I was "new" and unknown. So my prices to start were slightly less. Once I was "established" I matched what was competitive.

1) How long have you been crafting?

I started taking art classes in Woodstock, NY when I was 11 years old. My teacher held classes in her home and encouraged us to experiment with collage, sculpture, sewing, drawing and painting. In high school I majored in photography and art. I thought I would pursue graphic design in college but got sidetracked by my love of nature and ended up majoring in Biology instead. I took some years off from creating while in college. It wasn’t until 2005, when I took time off from teaching to stay home and raise my son, that I picked up my camera again. I haven’t put it down since.

2) Did you always craft in this genre?

Jewelry design is new to me. Last Christmas I decided to try my hand at making my art wearable and began experimenting with resin and jewelry design. Taking photographs is when I feel the most joy, although I still enjoy collage and drawing as well. I use jewelry design as a way of sharing my photographs.

3) Who or what inspires you?

This is a tough question because there are so many artists that have inspired me. I would have to say my mother has been my greatest inspiration. Her love of nature and photography were great passions that definitely trained my artistic eye. Next would have to be the artists I have met through blogging. Misty Mawn was one of the first bloggers that I connected with. Watching her work evolve and having her support and friendship really gave me courage to further explore my artistic passions. I have also been inspired following the journey of Kelly Rae Roberts. Her honesty, openness and willingness to share her journey has been invaluable to me. Watching her career blossom has been exciting and inspiring to me.

There are too many photographers that inspire me to list them all.

I am inspired by many art forms. Mary Oliver’s poems speak to my heart, and when editing a photograph sometimes one of her poems will come to mind. You will find many of my photographs have been dedicated to her poems.

Music also serves as inspiration. Listening to The Weepies gets my creative energy flowing like no other music I have ever listened to. I hope to create some drawings or photo collages based on some of their songs.

But the best inspiration for me comes from just being outside in the sun and fresh air, surrounded by nature. My camera helps me savor the details of my surroundings and is a practice of gratitude for the beauty around me.

4) What challenges have you found while taking your craft into the business world?

Having very little experience in business and being a stay-at-home mom of a 2 ½ year old has been challenging – especially from a time management perspective. There is so much to learn about business management, web design, jewelry design and photography. Sometimes it is hard to know where to concentrate my time and energy. Start up costs are also a very real issue. Jewelry design has a lot of up-front costs associated with it.

AEphi

I've been trying to promote myself to soroities for some time now. I guess i'm not trying hard enough, and the times i do try, for some reason i get pushed away. So, when i heard that 70 girls from Alpha Epsilon Phi were coming into the Art Studio i work at, i knew i had to bring in some awesome jewelry for them! (And cross my fingers that someone, any of them, are interested and some beautiful, custom jewelry! What do you think?

Jobs may suck but at least i had a wonderful dinner!

I work at a gallery in a town called Winter Park. It's an amazing American Craft Gallery, full of inspirational artist. It's a blessing, having this job, but right now it is PAINFULLY slow, and it's killing me. It's actually giving me headaches. All of us are bored, and none of us are going to make our goals since there are approx 10 customers a day now? s.u.m.m.e.r.t.i.m.e is so s.l.o.w there.

A few months ago, i was floored when they decided to take in my jewelry. It's a hugh blessing! I watch them turn down dozens of artists a day, and i'm stoked they've accepted my jewelry. I've brought in two collections to them so far. This collection has 30 pieces i'm trying to finish. In the last week i've brought in 20 new pieces.

On the bright side, i have some amazing co-workers. Tonight, my co-worker Devan invited me over to cook dinner with her. I've lived a very shelted life, especially in the food world, so tonight was an experiment for my taste buds. (which were very happy with my bravery to try new foods!) We made Mediteranian food, which i've not only never had.

Foods i tried:
*Jasmine Rice
*Tomato and Spinich (tried once or twice)
*Squash
*Olives (3 kinds)
*Feta cheese

Okay, so i'm going to have to work on my food photography. You'd never guess i was once paid to be a food photograher. The food was amazing, very flavorful. You'll just have to take my work for it!! I'm going to have to let Devan cook more often. :) Thank you soo much Devan!
