Interesting...... na-doodle

So...my friend Tara sent this to me this morning and oddly enough, it's pretty accurate which COMPLETELY surprises me.

I know it's kind of long, so i don't blame you if you didn't want to read it all. Ha. But i wanted to share anyways!
--------------------------------------------

"jen,
You love a good time. You are generally happy, friendly, and outgoing. You have a gift for gab. You are very witty, creative, and playful. You inspire and entertain people. You are considered by many a great companion.

You have a gift for self expression and are drawn to the verbal arts -- writing, acting, singing, and poetry. You may have a great talent in one of these areas. If your creativity is blocked or suppressed, you tend to daydream and fantasize. Your imagination needs a constructive outlet; otherwise, it may run away with you.

If you fail to deal honestly with your inner nature, you may succumb to compulsive talking. Such behavior may be merely a way of siphoning off emotional energy that is building beneath your surface. Your deeply felt emotional life cannot be avoided or suppressed. But you possess the talent to channel these feelings into highly creative and artistic form. Art and self-expression are your outlets.

You need discipline to make full use of your abilities. Too often, you may scatter your energies in many directions, beginning projects that are never finished and never really succeeding in anything.

You success depends on your ability to commit to your work and to see it through to completion. You have so much creativity and inspiring upward energy that you are in desperate need of an anchor. Hard work and discipline serve this purpose and bring out the best in you.

Because you are gifted with such a sparkling personality, you are tempted to stay on the surface and play with life.

You have the potential to live a very full and successful life thanks to your talent for artistic self expression. The key to your success is a balance between the creative forces and self-disclose."

Happy SUNday lovely folks!

To New York! And beyond. :)

So..... i just came back from New York. I had the most incredible time. I've been living in nostalgia the whole week i've been back.

Camilo took me on lots of adventures; we were literally 'adventuring' from 10am to 4am every day i was there. CRAZY!

truth.

I stayed in Astoria, Queens, which i think might be my favorite 'borough' in NY. I LOVE the quaint brick houses, and that it's still full of people, yet not over crowded and intimidating like the city.

Although all the 2011 sketchbooks were on tour already when i got there, i got to enjoy the 2010 sketchbooks from the Sketchbook Project at the Brooklyn Art Library. What a pretty store!!

I also got to enjoy Renegade Craft Fair which was PRETTY STELLAR! I'm going to apply to it next year. ::crossing my fingers!!::

This was my first time riding a real train. It was kind of like a grey hound, only much larger. Double decker in fact! I made friends with the tattoo'd pierced, bald, ticket collector man. He was my peep!

I seriously can't wait to go back!!! I miss my friends terribly, and can't wait to run a muck with them in the fall!
Have you adventured anwhere recently? I'd love to hear about it!
Over and out,
Jenipher :)

Artwork, Bicycles, and all that Jazz...

[me!]

I just love bicycles.
I am lying. [only a little]

While i do love the concept of them, and think they are visually attractive, i am actually slightly scared to ride one. I have one in my garage that i asked for, and have yet to use. I'm scared about how high off the ground i am on a bike, and most days would rather roller blade.
[much better for ground falling distance]

[me!]

So for now, until i get the courage to take my bike out for a spin, i will continue to enjoy the visual candy of these bicycles.

[mine!] :)

And eventually...i WILL own a bike with flowers and a bell, i'll move to the mountains, and i'll own a goat. Life will be SO grand!!

Until then...
Have a fab day!

Nightly Contemplations... are you an enemy?

Do you ever feel like two different people?
I do.

In general, i do feel our society dwells on the negative much more then the positive and it breaks my heart. I'm no different then anyone else.

In fact, if anything... i'm probably worse.

I'm very positive and optimistic for everyone else [most of the time]. But i'm so negative and hateful to myself, that there are days i honestly don’t even know how i get by.

It’s a constant battle, these two people inside me. One; the person i KNOW i really am, the person i want to be. The other; well, the other is the biggest “Debbie Downer” I can ever fathom. I am constantly and continually bewildered by how screwed up i am. And how my perception of myself is so skewed.

it's quite frustrating .... and more then that. it’s VERY VERY draining.

Do you ever feel this way about yourself? Are YOU, your own worst enemy at times?

My mom gave me a book to read while i was down visiting. It's helping her, which is a glorious thing. I'm reading it and find it INCREDIBLELY truthful and humorous. Maybe you will like it too. :)

Life is TOO beautiful. TOO precious. And WAY TO MUCH of a gift to consistently let it us down!! We all have to fight these negative demons away!!! It’s NOT easy, and infact VERY hard at times, but we WILL concur this.
TOGETHER.

I have faith in all of us!
I hope you do too.

Love, Smiles, Thanks, and Cookies to YOU beautiful lady!! [or gentleman!] ;)
Jenipher

Life's Happy Quotes

The happy and inspiring things my friends have said to me today..BEHOLD.

In a way. But, you're trying to fight it. Most people don't. You're one strong and inspiring little lady. - Georgia

I only give them because I like your art. You show me so many different things but none of them are ever the same. They all have their own flair and ideas you put into them. You think about your art and it shows. You don't just churn out variations of the same idea. - Torin, on how he's always so complimentary towards my art work.

I think you're pretty open minded. You take other people's view points and put them into action a lot more than other people I know. People usually ask for advice and still just do whatever THEY want to do.. - Georgia

I hope you have a splendid, creative weekend ya'll!!

Smiles and Blessings,
Jenipher

Stephanie is super awesome, and woke up SUPER early to come to my house at 6am to get to the show.

I had a really great afternoon, and hope I get the privilege to see all these amazing ladies again. I am SO game for a craft day! Let me know when you're interested in having one! :)

Art Guild + scary sewing machines = Happy Saturday.

Last Saturday, some friends and I finally got together to start an Art Guild.

The five of us spent hours eating way to many breakfast foods, laughing, and doing crafts. It was just wonderful, and i can't wait for next months meeting!!

Art Guild!

Art Guild!

Art Guild!

PLUS, i finally got to do some of my project from Elsie and Rachel's class. (Which i'm failling HORRIBLE behind in!) (Still am!!) (and keep missing the chats...blah!) but i tried my hand at the sewing machine and realize i'm horrid at it! Alas, here is the start of my first journal!

Project one. - Journal.

I guess sewing machines are like horses. Once you obviously fall off and use two spools of thread doing so, climb right back on. And i shall...

Sickly Apologies.

I have not felt that well the past couple days, so ive been lacking of blogs (and Etsy'n sadly). I feel better today, and actually have a TON of plans!! Way more then any usual Jen has plans. I have plans ALLLL DAY.

* I have a online chat with my class mates and teachers which is very exciting. (starts at 10am)
* I am meeting friends to start an "Art Guild" (which also, starts at 10am)
* I have a friend's suprize BBQ at 6pm.

Whew!! Long wonderfully fun day! I hope yours is equally as great!

Smiles,

JENipher :)

Infusional Inspiration.

Infusion Tea

I know, again, i always apologize, but i've been a bad blogger..again!!

Right now I'm at my favorite tea house so it's so much easier to be a good girl blogger. Except...that the internet is on the fritz here, and my computer is dying, and i've only been here an hour. It's been enough to recharge though, so I'm still thankful. It's been a crazy couple months, full of drama and excitement. Many things have been learned, taught, responded to, understood, misunderstood. Alas, at this moment, i can say i have a new appreciation to my jewelry, to my loving boyfriend and his family. To my favorite, and my future surrounded by all of these relationships. I'm in a good place right now, and i hope to move here permanently. Cross your fingers!!

No internet, New Items and Shows...oh my!

Ok friends..this is just killing me. i STILL don't have Internet access. I'm hiding in the back of a Panera using their Internet. I can't stay for long, just long enough to upload some new items on thy website and etsy. Check these babies out! :)

Also...i have loads of exciting shows coming up.

* Every 2nd Thursday i participate in Sanford's "Alive at 5" event, which i've written about before.

* I am also going to be at Infusion Tea - Orlando's 1st "Fall in Love with Handmade" event, which I'm stoked about. It;s held at my favorite tea house, Infusion Tea on Sept. 27th.

* THEN!! Stitch Rock will take the stage on October 4th. I am soooo very excited to be part of this event. I applied last year and didn't attend, but this year, i have got my table and everything and am ready to rock.

* Art Farm is a local artsy events in downtown Orlando. I don't know a ton about it, except it seems awesome. This event is Oct. 19th.

And lastly...but certainly not least, i am very excited to be participating in the Atomic Bazaar. I have read many articles about this stellar event, and am proudly wearing my grin at my Cherry Runway table on December 14th.

Come to these shows folks!! You won't be disappointed! :)

Typewriters, Irons, and Artwork! Oh My!

I've been admiring Michele's work for AGES!!! I just look at her work longingly, wishing i could buy all of it!! (or at least any of it, and one day Michele i promise i will!) Buying things right now just aren't in the cards right now, so I'm just drool over her work. And you should too!! Not only is her work amazing, but she's super friendly. And inspiring to anyone who is just waiting for the day they would like to take their art to the next level and make it their full time job. So sit back, look at the pretty pictures and look at the stellar work before you.

*How long have you been crafting?

I have been making things and art for just about 8 years now, but ever since I can remember I have loved to create things. Art was always my favorite activity in school, and it's something that I have always been driven to do.

*Did you always craft in this genre?

I have always stayed pretty close to the fine arts. Both of my grandmothers tried to teach me how to crochet. They also tried to teach me how to sew and hook rugs, but I never really took to it. However, I did really love drawing and making watercolor paintings for people.

il_430xN.30138608

*Who or what inspires you?

I like to find inspiration in things that make up my everyday life. A favorite cup, a vintage typewriter, my favorite water towers, certain flowers...these are the things that surround me. I have always liked the idea of art as a journal, or a story, and that is what I am trying to achieve with my work right now.

*What defining moment made you decide to turn your hobby into a business?

I don't know if there was a defining moment, but there was certainly a defining time. I recently moved to Pontiac, Michigan while my boyfriend attends graduate school at Cranbrook. I had been looking for a job for almost two months. I must have turned in over 30 resumes, and had several interviews, and still I had nothing. I have almost 6 years of experience working as an assistant department manager for a couple of health food stores, and had actually had three different interviews for one here. However, they wanted to start me off as a cashier, and I had promised myself 2 years ago that I would never, ever, cashier again. Out of all the various jobs I have had, that is my least favorite...and I swore I would never do it again no matter how much I needed the work. So, when they offered that job to me I said no. I said that I would much rather keep looking for another opportunity, or work on making art my full time job...and here I am :)

il_430xN.19824282

*What changes were made to your regular schedule to make this go from a hobby to a business?

I didn't have to change a whole lot, because this is what I started doing full time. However, there are a few things that I had to learn to do to keep myself on track. I always make a to-do list. If this doesn't get done I feel like my head is spinning in circles. Also, I had to learn to take breaks. I would try to get everything done in one go, but things just don't work that way. I had to teach myself that it's ok to take breaks and stretch my legs every now and then.

* You have an amazing talent, with great product! What do you find is the best way to market yourself?

Well, I am still pretty new to this, but I have found that having a blog is a great way to promote yourself. It gives people a chance to see what I am working on and it gives them a little bit of a sneak peak. It also allows people to connect with me, as an artist. People can see where I am coming from through the writing in my blog. They can get to know me on more of a personal level, and I think that is really important when it comes to viewing art work, or even when making a decision to purchase a piece of work.

My blog address is http://www.how2drawacupofcoffee.blogspot.com just in case you'd like to check it out.

il_430xN.29210359

*What challenges have you found while taking your craft into the business world?

One of the biggest challenges is that there is a lot of competition in the art world. Sometimes it's all just a matter of being at the right place at the right time, or even knowing the right people. I am not much of an outgoing person. In fact I have had a really hard time talking to people, especially about my work. Unfortunately, this is something that is REALLY important when it comes to selling art and making all those right connections. But, I am working on it, and I think with the help of the internet I am building more and more confidence in talking to people and discussing my work.

il_430xN.21218364

*If someone from out of town were visitng you, what key places would you bring them to? (galleries, coffee shops, parks, museums, etc)

Well, the Detroit Institute of Art just finished their big remodel so I would definitely take them there. There is also a handful of great little boutiques and cool art related businesses in Royal Oak. One of them being the 323 Gallery on East Third in Royal Oak. Also in Royal Oak is an amazing Farmer's Market where you can literally buy a weeks worth of groceries for about $20-40 bucks. This includes breads, meats, cheeses, herbs...all from local farmers! It's really amazing and I shop there every Saturday :) I love promoting local arts and farmers, because I think it's SO important, especially here in Michigan, to support small business people, and the environment.

il_430xN.30123918

Head over to Michele's etsy, or her blog (where she posts on a daily basis, with pictures!). Enjoy!

You Captured My Fruit.

For as long as i can remember, food art, in any genre, has always captivated me. Well, obviously, looking at the name i chose for my own business. Produce (fruit and vegetable) artwork really tickles my fancy though. So, it's very understood why i adore them so much. Tim Chumley has a keen eye and works in many genre's.

il_430xN.18598916

How long have you been crafting?

I've been a photographer most of my life, receiving my first camera when I was six. But my interest in photography took off in high school and stayed pretty even until about five years ago, when the quality/cost ratio of digital imaging became reasonable. I quit my day job (teaching in grad school) 18 months ago to practice photography full time. I've been producing my own prints for sale for about a year.

one_f7

four_f1

Did you always craft in this genre?

I've never "crafted" before.

two_f2

Who or what inspires you?

In fine art photography I appreciate photos that tell a story or evoke an emotion, or that offer a unique perspective on something traditional. My fruit series is an example of a different perspective. It's not expected, and because of that it draws a lot of attention.

il_430xN.18618881

What challenges have you found while taking your craft into the business world?

The promotion process never stops. I have to constantly look for new opportunities and outlets for my prints. For example, I recently started selling large framed prints on Amazon.com. The other lesson I've learned is: compliments don't pay the bills. Everyone who sees my work "loves my work," and it's rewarding to hear. I never get tired of compliments. Some days that's what keeps me moving forward. But those remarks don't put kids through college.

il_430xN.11398740

Head over to Tim's etsy for more images, and make sure to head over to his website to see all the other amazing images he's taken.
